Nardin Today Winter 2020-2021

4 president's desk Nardin Today Winter 2020-21 A s 2020 draws to a close, I am struck by the drastic changes that have occurred in all of our lives and in our school. Who could have imagined that we would be here, six feet apart, with masks on, having our temperatures taken each morning? Yet it has been truly heartwarming to see our students following all of the regulations, with courtesy and kindness. They are so resilient, and we remain wholly committed to their continued safety. Nardin Academy has been fortunate to have maintained in-person learning for all but two weeks for the last four months, while following strict mandates put in place by New York State. This is a testament to our dedicated faculty and staff, our committed students, our cooperative parents, and our steadfast facilities team. Witnessing such unity throughout this community made my decision and announcement to retire much harder. Serving as president has been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity. Nardin has never been stronger, and I am confident that this is the right time for me to hand over the reins. Moreover, when we kicked off Called to Connect: The Campaign for Nardin Academy last November, the realities of 2020 were completely unknown. However, our strategic priorities remain the same. In the following pages, you will learn about the amazing work our students are doing in and out of the classroom, obeying restrictions, and following guidelines none of us could have imagined less than a year ago. You will get a sneak peak of our completed capital projects- on Cleveland Avenue and Rosalia Street- ahead of springtime ribbon cuttings. And, you will be introduced to more of our impressive alumnae- one of whom has assumed the role of Nardin’s first Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Opportunity, and another who was recruited to a renewable energy start-up company before graduating from college cum laude in May. Finally, during this season of giving thanks, it is most fitting to recognize our devoted donors, without whom we could not thrive. Gifts made to Nardin during the 2019-2020 fiscal year are listed in this issue’s President’s Report. I thank you for your ongoing support of Nardin Academy. Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year! Be safe and be well.
